A very old man with a vague past that may go back centuries appears on a South Dakota highway, near death from exposure. The man who calls himself “Aman” reveals to a few that the end of the world as we know it is suddenly at hand. Something extraordinary has happened that will change everything in a matter of days. It will begin, he says, when all those whose nature promotes violence and killing – and have acted on that desire – are dead by morning.

At dawn his revelation proves true. People throughout the world who have ever taken a life, or who have promoted violence against another, are now dead with no apparent cause. World leaders who instigated deadly hostilities succumb, including the President of the United States. Military chains of command of all nations are broken. Police forces are crippled. Aman’s prophetic message is actually a warning. Those close to him learn that he has only three days left to reach a remote region in Iraq’s desert, the cradle of the world’s civilizations. Something is buried beneath the desert, something placed there before man. From it flows life itself – an anomalous field called “The Fold” that transcends what we understood about quantum matter and time. But who put it there and why? And what role is it now playing in the cataclysmic events rapidly reshaping the world?

As Aman’s journey progresses amidst a worldwide military manhunt, his ominous warning becomes clear: the power that created the world can also inadvertently destroy it. If Aman’s journey fails, Earth’s future is doomed.

Meanwhile, frightened citizens around the world crowd streets in search of answers ... and a means of survival. Some are obsessed to know the truth about their fates, while others want to see Aman dead in the hopes of defending old beliefs about their ultimate salvation. However, a chosen few will do everything in their power to protect this unique man who grows younger each day, a man whose presence alone can cure the dying. But as they struggle to reach the Middle Eastern desert before an immutable deadline, who is protecting whom?

Whatever side prevails, there can be no turning back. Only Aman knows the answer to what lies behind the veil that hides mankind's destiny. And only he can save that destiny from extinction.

CHARACTERS

AMAN: A very old man with a past that could go back centuries. He emerges suddenly from the South Dakota desert carrying with him the secret of a mysterious natural force – The Fold – whose power suddenly and inadvertently threatens the world. Aman character progresses – and age-regresses – each of the six days of his journey. None of the other characters understand who or what he is, or what compels them to want to help him. His compassion, his sense of purpose and his calm manner are infectious and inspiring. He is caring and reflective but assertive and resourceful when the situation demands it. After all, the world’s fate is in his hands.

SAMANTHA COYOTE: Samantha is Native American descendant, about to turn 40, and fiercely independent. Barely able to make ends meet as a diner waitress, she inadvertently finds herself in a dangerous situation compelled to help Aman, a stranger, who she feels that she has some strange connection with. Unsure about her purpose in his mission, she stays by him with a strong conviction that this journey is something very important she must do. She is vulnerable yet strong – a contradiction that she battles with throughout the story. She realizes that she hasn’t done much with her life, but she will risk it to protect Aman and her friends.

DR. DAVID MARSHALL: An ER doctor whom Samantha finds attractive. Seen through Samantha’s eyes, at first he’s very business-like with his patients – clinical, professional. He and Samantha are attracted to each other, feelings that blossom and add a layer of romance as the story progresses. Marshall isn’t sure he believes what is happening to the world, or if Aman can actually save them, but he goes along, skeptical. As the days pass, he grows to care deeply about Aman and his mission. The dangerous situation makes him realize his own limitations, and also his strengths – loyalty, sense of humor, compassion and the ability to love.

DEPUTY KIRBY DAWSON: A good guy with broad shoulders and a big heart. Uncomplicated, he realizes that he hates his job as a deputy supporting a ruthless sheriff, and he longs to return to his old life as a heavy equipment operator – a skill he’s very good at. He’s sweet on Samantha and doesn’t quite know how to articulate his affection for her or his jealousy toward his rival Dr. Marshall. He hopes to win her affections by protecting her and, as he helps Aman, by demonstrating that he’s a man who can get things done. There’s a straightforwardness about him that’s comfortable – what you see is what you get.

NICK JUDGE: A young ace fighter pilot who can fly anything, Nick is wrongfully accused and sentenced to death for a war crime he didn’t commit. A relative late-comer to the group that finds each other to help Aman, he offers his remarkable skills as a pilot to get them overseas and ultimately to a dangerous crash landing in the desert of Iraq. An easy going personality who never loses his humanity or compassion, Nick is a young man of action motivated by adventure. He knows the difference between right and wrong and assumes a “protector” role – someone the others can count on.
